3 Day First Aid at Work (HSE Standards).

This accredited 3 day First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification will meet the recommendations of the HSE, which states that even small office are required to have a first aid kit and at least one appointed person to take care of first aid arrangements. Ultimately the employer must assess the workplace risk and train sufficient first aiders.

The HSE’s first aid at work assessment tool kit can be found here. It is designed to help employers determine the number and level of first aid trainers required within the workplace. The tool kit serves as a general guide only. You should take into account The guidance in L74, which can be found on the HSE website.
Candidates must attend the full 3 days training in order to fulfil the qualification requirements. In addition to full attendance, every candidate is assessed on each topic of the programme.

Course Aims
FAW training includes EFAW and also equips the first-aider to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses.
Successful candidates should be able to understand the role of the first aider including, being able to assess the situation in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency. In addition to this be able to provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters). Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).

• The need for recording incidents and actions
• Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
• Administer CPR
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
• Chest injuries
• Burns and scalds
• Eye injuries
• Sudden poisoning
• Anaphylactic shock
